Official Tweeter for ALL ACCESS FASHION

All Access Fashion is a three day event that takes place at Tysons Galleria. The high-end shopping center right outside of Washington, D.C. I attend last year, which was the first year. That was the first time I met Tim Gunn as well. (I will be posting a about last years along with this years.)

What I wanted to tell you all is that I was chosen to be the official tweeter! Follow @TysonsGalleria and almost all of the tweets will be from me during this season.

This years All Access starts tomorrow with a panel. Friday is the main show and Saturday are all the collections from the stores in the mall. Some include 7 For All Mankind and Betsey Johnson.

I will be posting very late at night after each of these events, so stay up for me!

"Hygiene. Still important."

Weeds is one of my all-time favorite shows. I came across this clip randomly and it made me laugh. Check it:

Weeds comes on every Monday on Showtime and I watch it. I don't care if I still have homework to do or a big test the next day. I REFUSE to DVR the show. I want to watch it when it is considered "new".

Bonjour Paris!

Its that amazing time of the year: Paris Fashion Week! Now having only been to NY Fashion Week and knowing how crazy it is there, I could only imagine what it would be like in Paris.

The schedule can be found here.

Now, I just learned this that Paris Fashion Week is part of the "Big 4". It is called this since there are the four major fashion weeks, in order they are: New York, London, Milan, and lastly, Paris.

According to the Wikipedia page (I know you shouldn't believe - or cite -  most information from them) Paris Fashion Week takes place at the Carrousel du Louvre. But when I went on to the French Fashion Federation's site this was there:

I believe this may only be for members of the press, but I still found it interesting. I really liked the picture because the you can see the Avenue des Champs-Élysées on it. If I ever travel to Paris in my life time I would only want it to be for Paris Fashion Week or work-related reason. I believe in what Karl Largerfeld said here:

Have I gone to place as a tourist before? Yes! But now I see, in a way, why he said this. Tourist, no offense to us, can be really annoying. If you a business person, at least you have things to accomplish whilst in the city you traveling in.

I will post on some of the collections, so keep a look out for my upcoming posts. In between those posts I will be posting about other random stuff, just so you know!

Macy's Event with Paul Wharton

Just the other day, September 25, 2010, I was invited to an event at Tysons Corner Macy's. This event was the Fashion Director Challenge with Paul Wharton from The Real Housewives of D.C.

It was a great event. I went with my friend, Elizabeth Hogue. Elizabeth was called on stage to style a look against another attendee. She won and received a $100 gift card to Macy's.

He I am with Lisa from The Real Housewives of D.C. (She was sweet and completely approachable)

Here is Lisa with my friend Elizabeth

And now Here is Elizabeth, Paul Wharton, and Me.

I will post the videos soon!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week:Getting Ready for the Project Runway Show

On September 8th, I left on a bus trip - a four hour bus trip - to NYC. I was invited to the Project Runway Finale Show at the new Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. I was invited by Tim Gunn, Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claiborne, Inc., and mentor on Project Runway.

I arrived at my hotel at 11:30pm-ish. As I was checking in, the receptionist looked at the screen and then behind her. She left her check-in station and picked up an Anthropologie bag and said "This was messengered here for you."

I had requested a bag from a designer and I did not know if you she would send it to me or not. The designer, Rebecca Minkoff, has created a mens' line. The bag was gorgeous. Perfect in every way. The attention to detail was flawless.
Sorry about the lighting!

At around midnight I fell asleep to the sound of sirens, cabs honking, and the subtle glow of a city that never sleeps.

I woke up at 4:45am since I was also invited to the top secret pre-show, where I was able to find out who the finalist are. (NOTE: I can not and will not say more than that.)

I loved the outfit I picked out:

Please don't mind that I'm in my hotel room.

Thus began my journey.

fashion judge

earlier this week I was chosen to be a judge for the Project Fundway Scholarship. Project Fundway is a $5000 scholarship awarded to a young design student with dreams of continuing their education. This is part of the Great Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce's Youth Education Programs.

It was a lot of fun and I can't show any pictures since I didn't get one of each garment so it wouldn't be fair to only show a couple of the students' designs.

But, check this out:

These are all very esteemed members of the DC Fashion Scene! The final judging is in October! Stay tuned!

Les Liaisons Dangereuses

Or in English, Dangerous Liaisons. This classic novel gave the foundation to my favorite movie of all time, Cruel Intentions. This movie was starred by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon. Filmed in 1999, this movie is the first Gossip Girl-type film I have found, before Gossip Girl.

This film is all about seduction. With Reese Witherspoon's character to be the target. It is truly great and one of a kind and that is why I want to read this novel - which I may add, is over 400 pages!

we must go forward to look back

With that said, I am currently avoiding having to do my Spanish homework and studying for my AP Environmental Science quiz I have tomorrow. I believe fashion trumps all, in most cases. Fashion, which I consider part of The Arts, is very important, as are all Arts.

In the United States I believe our country is losing a footing there. Everyone is becoming uncultured. With that I mean when you look (way) back in school and read about colonial times and medieval times, everyone of middle to upper class citizens, knew more than one language, had read all the great classics (that had been written up to the point), and traveled extensively to learn more.

I know nowadays most people could not afford to travel, but there is no excuse to not try and learn another language. I am currently taking Spanish. I know I should be taking French since it is more cultured, but Spanish is more practical in the United States and comes in very handy!

Well, there is my first little rant! How I am going to develop my blog is my label, or tagging, each post as either "Looking Back" or "Going Forward." "Looking Back" will consist of just that. Looking into my life past. "Going Forward" will have everything else. What I think are trends, what I am doing, or just did.

I hope that isn't too confusing!

welcome

hi and welcome. you have found my blog. but whom am i? I am RiEN. Well, that is just the fashion diva name I want to catch on. My real name is a form of RiEN, spelt Ryan. Now you see why RiEN is catchier.
